Angel Sleeping - acrylic on panel

So, I did my first painting in acrylics last week. I took a one day class where we worked in acrylics and I was fascinated with them. I love oils, and always will, but acrylics definitely have their place in the life of an artist who procrastinates pieces that need to be shipped across the country by a certain date, like a birthday!

This is my sister's cat Angel, and the inspiration for her birthday painting.

My sister has had this cat for over 15 years. She is so sweet and this picture captures her kittiness purrfectly. So I got out the acrylics and captured Angel on canvas, changing the pillow to lavender.

One would think I exaggerated her shape for effect, but I did not. The amazing thing is, rather than drying for six months this was ready in two days to ship. And the colors are very pleasing. It has opened a whole new world for me.

So, happy birthday to my beautiful sister, Cindy, who turns the big 4-0 today!
