Rose Study
Today I got to spend a little bit of time in the studio, despite having a sick little munchkin at home. I picked up a bunch of beautiful roses at Genuardi's last Friday and had dabbled with capturing the "peachness" of the roses last Friday before my fun-filled weekend began. My daughter was home from Penn State this weekend for spring break so the weekend was filled with barbecuing and then the Flower Show in Philadelphia on Sunday (disappointing to say the least.) I was very excited to get back in the studio this morning. In the past when painting I have just gotten right into it, alla prima, start to finish. I do like doing that. But I have found that I work out a lot of glitches in the process and thought there had to be a better way to do it. So then I thought that I would do a "quick study" before doing my actual painting. I think it's something I will do in the future, especially with complicated set-ups. I guess you could consider it like practicing scales on the piano before playing a difficult piece. I have read many articles about this over the years and thought it would be good to try.
So I guess we'll see if this worked when we see the next painting and how it turns out. Stay tuned and I'll post it next week....
