Aurora's Fig - oil on canvas 7 x 5"
There is a beautiful story about this fig. On Sunday, we went to my friend Aurora's house for her granddaughter Tessa's birthday. Aurora brought two figs over to me. She said "most people don't know how to eat figs" at which point I said "I don't think I know how to eat figs" and we both laughed. So she peeled the first one to show me how. While she peeled she told me the story of her figs.
She said that her husband planted three fig trees in front of a restaurant that her family has owned for many years. She said it was about 15 years ago that he planted them. Aurora lost her husband 14 years ago. She said that her family brings her figs from these trees every year when they arrive, and she loves to have them every year as a reminder of her husband. It brought tears to my eyes, and does now.
Thank you, Aurora, for the beautiful gift you shared with me on Sunday.
