California Dreaming

California Dreaming

I've recently started doing quite a few landscape paintings and really enjoying it. I started out doing still lifes in 2009 and spent two years concentrating on that. I enjoy still life painting quite a bit, but always pictured myself outside painting, somewhere exotic like Italy, France, or atop the Laguna Beach cliffs that I used to roam when I lived in Southern California. I have been working like crazy the past several months on still-lifes for the gallery and one day last week I just didn't want to sit in my darkened studio downstairs painting. I wanted to see sunlight, and the weather was gorgeous so I moved my easel and paints upstairs to a very bright spot overlooking the back of my property. It was so wonderful and warm and sunny. So rather than paint the covered swimming pool out back (who really wants to see that?) I got out a picture from a recent trip to Northern California that I love and have been itching to paint. It took two sessions to finish it but I'm feel invigorated from switching it up a little on the easel. It was a nice change of scenery for the day!
